My name is James Pogger and I'm 18 years old. I should have been at training camp with my team right now. But fate had something else prepared for me.

"I thought you were starving. Or was it just an excuse to be alone with me?" James said. "No. I am starving," Vanessa said. 

 

"And I am dining. Right now," she said. "Wait... So you're a vampire? Cool! Bite me," he said.

"Here I go..." Vanessa said. "Is it painful?" James said. 

"Ouch..." James said. "Mhm..."

"That was sweet. And bitter. Just as I like it," Vanessa said. "Blood can taste different?" he said. "Yeah, of course. Mage's blood is the best. So refreshing..." "So, am I going to be a vampire now? Do I get to do the cool stuff like turninmg into a bat? Oh, or hypnotizing people?" "Hah... No, sweetie, nothing like that. I'm sorry, but it's not that easy to become a vampire. You have to drink vampires blood to become one of us," she said. "Oh... But why? Can you turn me into a vampire?"

"I'm sorry, but no. I'm not ready to deal with a new child of the night. Especially one as green as you," Vanessa said. "What's wrong with me?" James said. "Nothing, for a human being. But you need to grow up. You don't want to stay that way forever, do you?"

"What's your book about?" James said. "About a planet overrun by intelligent octopuses. Science fiction. I can't believe it's so fascinating. I started it out of desperation, and now I can't stop. I'd forgotten that I wasn't interested in macic at all when I was a kid. I was always fascinated by stories about space and uncharted galaxies.
