This is the first day of Max's new life. Until recently Max lived in a different part of the country with his father. His parents divorced when Max was very little and the family ws ripped apart after a fierce custody battle. Max's mother too his three sisters home, while his father moved away with the boy. Max hasn't seen his family since and any attempts at communication were very much discourage by his father. But now, everything has changed after his sudden death. During Max's father's funeral Max was approached by a woman he instantly recognized as his mother. She asked him if he would be willing to go home with her, meet his sisters and be a family again. A little hesitantly Max said yes and after a long journey by train he has arrived at his new family's home. Max rings the bell and the door opens...
"Oh, hi Max! You're right on time." "Hi Susan. Good to see you again," he said.
"I'm really glad you're letting me stay. I've missed you, Susan," Max said. "That's sweet! Let's go inside and I'll show you your room. Your youngest sister is also home, she's very eager to meet you!" she said.
"So this will be your room. It's not that big, but I hope you like it," she said. "Thanks Susan, this is great!" he said. "The bathroom is just down the hall, if you want to take a shower and freshen up a little. All right. I'll leave you to unpack and settle in."

"So, we're all together," Ana said.
"The booze is in the fridge and we're going to order pizza later this evening. You can either stay with us or play some boring game with James," Ana said. "Don't fall for it, man. Max picks a few beers from the fridge and walks with James to his room.

"Kira has been telling us about her dance classes. Did James tell you she's learning to be a professional dancer?" RRachel said. "James was really busy yelling at the screen, because his character died within secons every time he respawned. So he failed to mention that," Max said.
"Anyway, professional dancer, Kira?" Max said.

Kira is a little wobbly on her legs, but still manages to appear graceful as she dances to a nonexistent beat.

Kira nearly trips over a glass of wine and loses her balance.
Max manages to catch her before she falls gracelesly to the floor.
"Oof. Thanks," she said. "You're welcome. You could have hurt yourself," he said. "No more dancing for me."
"Let's go to the living room and watch a movie," Ana said. "We're not going to see that slasher flick, right?" Rachel said. "Yes!" "Sounds fun," Kira said. "Oh, god..." Rachel said.
The next three hours they're treated to a bloodbath involving several hapless teenagers. Although the murderous rampage of the psychopathic protagonist is one big cliche, the girls scream in fear at various points. Rachel doesn't seem to enjoy the movie. After the psycho has annihilated every teenager in the movie, the credits roll and Rachel stifles a yawn.
"I'm going to be, what about you guys?" Rachel said. "Sounds good," Alina said. "I'll get a spare mattress for you, Max," James said. "Thanks."
Max says good night to everyone and retires to Jame's room, though he has a feeling this isn't the end of the evening...

Would you like to help me?" Liza said. "I'd love to," Max said. "Yes, Justin? It's me again, Max says he can drive. Yip, he's a dear! Get well soon, bye Justin. Thanks a bunch." "No problem." "We should get the van from the shelter's garage," she said.
"This it it?!" Max said. "It's old and doesn't look like much, but it runs. Mostly," Liza said. "That's very reassuring." "All the supplies should already be packed and inside." "Let's drive then!" he said.
Max manages to start the vehicle and drive out of the shelter's garage. The GPS tels him that it'll take more than two hours to reach their destination.
"I'm really glad we could go," Liza said. "Me too. Derelict van, beautiful weather and a beautiful girl, what more do you want?" Max said. "Music?" Oh god."

As they drive the first miles, Liza is fiddling with the radio until she finds a station she likes. Her head bobs up and down to the rythm of some golden oldie.
"You're in a good mood toay," Max said. "I am! These long drives always make me feel so free. It's an adventure," she said. "It feels just like a delivery run to me, but I'm glad you're enjoying yourself." "Don't be sour, Max." "I'm not, I'm really happy to be out here with you," he said.
When Max stops for fuel, Liza decides to have a picnic on the grass near the gas station.
"Mmmm, the sun is so nice. Let's stay here for a while," Liza said. "Fine with me," he said. "You know what amazes me about you, Max?" "That I'm such a good driver?" "True. But it's not that. You're so easy among women," she said. "Easy?" "That came out wrong. I mean you're so at ease. Isn't that hard when you've only lived with Dad?" "I wouldn't describe living with Dad as being in a typical household run by men. I was mostly alone a lot of the time," Max said. "Yeah, that must have been harsh." "It gave me a lot of freedom. And it's not like there weren't any women. Dad had plenty of girlfriends." "Ugh," Liza said. "But they came and went. Though there was one woman I felt a connection with, she taught me a lot." "Good, she was a bit of a mother figure to you?" "You could say that," he said. "But I just wanted to say that I admire the way you are. You make me feel at peace. I think you could say that the whole family benefits from it. Heck, I've never seen Bella this happy. It's like we're complete, with you around, you know?" "Now you're making me blush." "Sorry," she said.
"I love you," Liza said. "I love you too," Max said.
They're startled by a car pulling up, ruining the moment.

"We'd better get to the van, otherwise we won't make it before sundown," Liza said.
The sun is already setting on the horizon when the van pulls up on the driveway of the farm.
"Hiya kids. My name is Hank. So glad you could make it. Justin called ahead to say he was sick, I was afraid he couldn't make this month's shipment." "Thanks to Max here we could still make it," Liza said. "Thank you both! Let me help you with unloading all those boxes," Hank said.
It takes an hour to unload all the stuff from the van into the barn.
"Are you going back right now? Or do you folks have time for some food?" Hank said. "I guess I could eat," Max said. "I'm hungry as well," Liza said. "You could join us for dinner with the clients, or I know a nice spot where you and your boyfriend can have a more romantic dinner," Hank said. "Oh, but..." Liza said. "All the clients are very nice people, if you're afraid of that." "No, it's not that. He's not my boyfriend," she said. "Ah, I just assumed... Pretty girl like you, with a strong boy like him... You know..." Hank said. "Eating outside sounds real nice," Max said. "Outside it is then!"

"Would you like some wine?" Max said. "I'd love to," Liza said. "I still need to drive, but I'll have one glass."
"Mmmm, quite tasty," she said. "Yup, lots of fresh produce," he said. "Could you live on a farm?" "I don't think I'd be cut out for all the work." "Me neither," Liza said. "Come on, you're a hard worker." "Thanks. But I think it would get to lonely. It's nice out here, but I think I'd miss the city eventually." "True," Max said.
"Mmmmm, I don't want to go," Liza said. "We'll have you eventually," Max said. "But not yet! I made a decision." "Right now? About what?" "Not actually right now... yesterday already... maybe... I kinda talked to Bella about stuff..." she said. "Stuff?" "You know... about doing what feels right." "Ah, so you talked to Bella about that," he said. "Yup and she confirmed a lot of what you've been saying. So I'm going to trust myself and see where it brings me." "I'm proud of you." "Thank you, that means a lot!" Liza said.

Liza falls asleep quickly, probably because of the wine. Max is focused on driving but glances at his sleeping sister from time to time.

It starts to eain, the patter of the raindrops on the windshield of the van is hyptotizing and nearly makes Max fall asleep as well.
When they're about halfway the hum of the van's engine begins to change... Liza wakes up from the sputtering noises.
"Wah?" "Hey, sleepyhead," Max said. "Did the van make that noise before?" Liza said. "It just started." "It doesn't sound good."
Something sizzles under the hood and Max notices the speed is rapidly declining.
"Shit," he said. "We're slowing down," she said.
It doesn't take long for them to come to a complete standstill. The ignition doesn't respond any longer to Max turning the key.
"Liza, I thin the van just broke down," he said. "But we're in the middle of nowhere... And it's raining," she said. "Those things regularly happen in the worst places. I'm going to take a look under the hood." "But you'll get soaking wet!" "I know, but maybe I can do something. Anything," Max said.
The rain drenches Max's clothes. He opens the hood and doesn't see anything out of the ordinary, but that could also be because Max never fixed a car in his life. Liza motions him back inside, so he closes the hood and crawls back inside the van.
"I don't know anything about cars, so I think we need to call a towing truck," Max said. "On it," Liza said.

"There's no cell coverage here... We passed a gas station, right?" Liza said. "That's still miles away and we're not dressed for such a walk," Max said. "I'm getting cold." "Me too, my rain-soaked clothes aren't helping either." "So we're stuck here?" she said. "Unless someone passes by, but I haven't seen any traffic in two hours."
A slight hint of panic crosses Liza's face and Max takes her hand in his.
"Don't worry, it's going to be okay," he said. "But do we have to stay the night here?" she said. "Probably. I saw some blankets and we could lie in the back. It's going to be fine." "If you say so..." "Let's look for those blankets," Max said. "Good idea."
They find four coarse blankets in the back of the van and create a makeshift bed out of them.
"See, very cozy!" Max said. "Hopefully, I'm freezing already," Liza said. "Yes, it's quite cold. Errr, Liza, I think it's better if we slip out of these wet clothes first."
