Pathfinder, an Atlas story
Click on the thumbnails to see the full-size screenshot - you know the deal. Let us begin...
Name's Peter Blood. I'm a pathfiner, or so they call us. I have no memory of how I got here... but it seems I am standed on some volcanic reef...
I found a source of fresh water... and signs of people...
A man's got to eat. This turtle will not only provide meat, but also leather and its shell. I can make a waterskin now...
I've seen some flotsam in the water. I found some salted meat and a few gold coins. I wonder if this has been my fate too. Am I the only survivor of a shipwreck?
Well, the ocean also provides a rich source of fish. I caught a tuna with my primitive flint spear...
Well, well... the island wasn't deserted. There are people living here, but they want gold if they are going to help me. I'm on my own for now. I will attempt to build myself a shack near by the water source, I think. I really need to set up a workshop so I can craft better tools than these stone ones I have. And I should try to tame some animals too, if I can.
Well, that's a task for another day...

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
I don't know how long I've been on this reef, but the urge to get off and sail out there gets stronger every day. There's been many of these bottles floating around the shore. I've found some maps inside...
I have a roof over my head and a bed to sleep in. Now it's time to work on getter better equipment - starting with getting a smithy...
I got everything I need. Now to build the smithy and start making better tools. And I should get some chickens, too. Those feather-brained birds will provide a steady source of tasty eggs...

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
When it rains, it really pours down. But a resourceful man makes the best of the situation and collects the rainwater...
I also got some mortar and pestle to make everything from organic paste to firegel to gunpowder...
I got myself a tannery, but so far I really haven't made much use of it. Eventually, I'm sure I may make some leather armour and things, but for now...
I'll l just stick to collecting sugarcane. I could be making grog from this, but I'll use the sugar with fibre to make organic paste and then mix that with flint to make firegel. The firegel will make firearrow for me...
I can see them sometimes out there - the Ships of the Damned. You do not want to mess with those. Fog makes it even more dangerous on the ocean, but soon I have to leave this island...
The shipsmaster at the dock of this freeport said he would help me build a raft. I just have to bring the materials - wood, thatch and hide...

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
The day had come. With my faithful companion on my shoulder, Princess and I left the volcanic reef...
We soon spotted another island. It turned out to be another volcanic reef, just like the one we had left...
The following day we set out again on my raft. Coming across some flotsam, I decided to jump in and have a looksie. That crazy monkey decided to follow me - even though everyone knows monkeys don't really know how to swim - and so, of course, the waves got her and my Princess was taken to the bottom of the ocean...

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
Ships of the Damned - If any of those ships got too close, they'd sink the HMS Flotsam in seconds. But as long as I managed to keep my raft at a good distance, they didn't bother me...
I made landfall on an island in a new region. This place had some really tall trees. It also had some new hazards - rattlesnakes - but so far nothing I couldn't handle...
My home started taking shape...
I also tamed a monkey I named Jane. I'm sure I should know where I got that name from, but for some reason that just escapes me, I can't remember a thing. I also tamed this boar I named Piggy. Again I'm sure I know that name from somewhere, but...

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
I needed to sail back to my first house to get vegetables, fruits and berries...
The Ships of the Damned didn't see me in the dark, but as the day broke it started to rain... and then came those cyclones. I do not know how I managed to survive...

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
Back at my first home. Here at the tannery I made myself an outfit fit for a pathfinder...
Having stocked up with vegetables, such as beans, rice and turmeric, and berries such as elderberry and acai, I sailed back to my new base...
It was after dark when I finally made landfall again. I saw a monkey get attacked by a rattlesnake. I thought the viper killed the creature, but he was just knocked out for a while. I carried him inside. He may have made a good companion for Jane. I was even planning to call him Tarzan once he had been tamed, but that monkey obviously did have other plans. He refised to be tamed so I let him run off into the wild again...

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
I kept making new discoveries in the island's fauna - scorpions and spiders...
I had heard about fish getting stranded before, but this was the first time I've seen it - when I found a dead manta ray on the beach. I also tamed myself a cow. Soon I might get milk...
Continuing to explore my region, I made use of my new grappling hook to pull in flotsam -- no more diving in the drink to investigate what's inside. I also came across a wreck, most likely an unfortunate vessel attacked by the Fleet of the Damned...
My navigation skills seemed to improve as I once again was challenged by the weather at night...

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
I set course for the neighboring region, eager to explore and find new resources...
I must admit, I was a bit surprised when I found civilization. It was the last thing I expected to find after making landfall amongs the mangrove. But I quickly learned the whole region was another lawless freeport...
Perhaps this island had some useful resources, I should explore... And I found salt!!

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
It was a fortunate thing I was on a freeport. My raft got firmly ran argound in the mangrove. I blame the tides, yes I do, the damn tides were to blame. I rescued my things from the stranded raft and moved everything to the new one. Let's all just forget this happened and never talk about it again.
The Fleet of the Damned were out there as usual, but I kept more than enough distance. They never bothered with me...

I had found some crystal on the last island I visited.

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
Exploring the island I found the remains of an earlier civilization. I aso caught a glimpse of an animal I had not sen before. And I brought a hen back with me when I sailed from the island on my raft...
It was back to the ocean and finding a new island to explore...
This island had coconuts on it...

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
I kept salvaging flotsam wherever I saw the Ships of the Damned sailing by...
My hopes are to find an island to claim, but that will require lots of gold. My first objective should be to accumulate enough gold to pay for a small crew and to get myself a small ship...

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
This island had new discoveries for me, such as the gentle giraffe. Those towering beasts I have seen push over trees from time to time, so best to watch where you're going - they certainly are not! And beehives with giant bees - bigger than me hand. Luckily, the bees were easily swatted by me trusty saber. I would not have liked to be stung by a bee this size! Good honey, though, so worth the risk.
Leaving the lovely - but rather hot - island behind, I continued my journey...

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
This new island was quite intriguing...
After finding the dead elephant, I was rather apprehensive about continuing my exploration. But the lust for adventure won out over my fear. I still was wary about running into whatever had killed that big Dumbo, though...
I came across this dead feline. Could a pack of these have killed that elephant?
After being attacked by a cobra, I decided it was enough exploration.

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
My latest expedition would take me to the largest island yet...
I started setting up the basics. Also crafted myself a pistol...
Now... I should be better prepared to explore my new home.

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
Whether day or night, a pathfinder must explore...
Returning home, I saw some spiders. Big spiders. Good thing I had my trusty flintlock pistol...
Then I decided to do some fishing...

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
I did a brief initial exploration of the island. Then I set out on the ocean again...
On the beach of this island I found oil...
There wasn't much more though, so I set out again...

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
A new Freeport...
Leaving the Freeport, I experience some of Atlas' extreme weather - the cyclones...
The poor fellow I found must've been washed overboard during the storms. And this, was quite amusing. The giant fish was still alive when I found it with its head buried in the sediment...

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
At first, I thought this was another freeport. But when I started exploring, I couldn't find a human anywhere...
I decided to explore the shipwreck, but I found nothing of value...

After establishing myself on the deserted island, I set out to make new discoveries...
In the process I tamed myself a new friend...

Another island, more exploration...
I decided to explore the shipwreck... It was strange. The wreck itself appeared old, but the human remains I found were fresh...

Re: Pathfinder, an Atlas story
I spotted the ferocious feline hiding in the thicket. Conflicting thoughts went through my head - should I attempt to capture the beast, it could help me. But capturing wild felines is no simple feat, it is dangerous. In the end, I decided to make the attempt...
I made it, I caught the tiger. I named him Tigger...
