Amra's Starfield
I'm in Starfield early access, I got in yesterday. So I made a character and got going. Here's my character, Amara Park, diplomat by trade. As always, click to enlarge:
Unfortunately she doesn't look as good in-game as during char creation. Typical.
Just landed on Kreet where I logged off for the day.

Re: Amra's Starfield
Since she's a United Colonies Native (one of the traits I gave her) she's right at home here, in New Atlantis, on the planet called Jemison.
The architecture looks impressive...
... but some of the npc's do not. Their bug-eyes look a little disturbing.
They have some nice establishments down here.
Again, nice architecture.
Going to home base is a walk in the park.
Tadaah! Mission accomplished.

Re: Amra's Starfield
Amara joined the Vanguard! They're the navy of the United Colonies, they let you join if you show some piloting abilities in a simulator.
Also you need to bring your own ship. An unusual requirement but the game gave me one the other day, so here we go.
Unfortunately the rookie mission wasn't like killing ten rats, it was a lot more intense! Fortunately I'd spent a point on Stealth which made it a little easier.
And off we go again, back home.
Next stop, Mars. It so happens I can combine a Vanguard mission with the first main quest mission there.

Ah, I just did that mission myself. Man, running with that Terrormorph on your ass - that was an adrenaline kicker. Thankfully I had Sarah as an added distraction.

Re: Amra's Starfield
I didn't have Sarah with me for that mission, I was on my own. But I kept an eye on the tracker and used stealth to keep my distance until the whole setup was ready for me to act as bait. I even got scratched a couple of times. Next time you meet those things is going to be much more harrowing though, just saying. I even forgot to make screenshots of that.Wotan wrote:Ah, I just did that mission myself. Man, running with that Terrormorph on your ass - that was an adrenaline kicker. Re: Amra's Starfield
Starfield is very well made for 2014 or so, unfortunately it's 2023. But as usual with Bethesda games modders are coming to the rescue, and even in the first week since release many mods have been made already to improve things like the interface, loading screens and even Sarah's butt! I'm sure many more mods will follow, including entire quest mods that are way better than the fetch-and-shoot quests I've encountered so far, some of which I managed to skip with my my char's persuasive diplomatic skills. Have a look at this video, make your choices and get downloading!

Re: Amra's Starfield
Yeah, and official modding tools haven't been released yet as far as I know. When Bethesda releases the creation kit for Starfield modding should really take off.
I'll keep an eye out for anything that might be interesting but until I reach the end of the story, I doubt I'll install any mods. For the New Game+ though - that will be a new experiience and hopefuly I'll find an interesting mod or two by then.
One of my 3 traits is Wanted, but so far I haven't run into any bounty hunters chasing me.

Re: Amra's Starfield
Turns out my next mission for the Freestar Rangers takes me to Neon. I also got a parcel to deliver there from way back and now Cora is worried about her mom, so Sam's personal quest takes me to talk to the same ranger I need to find for my FC quest -- always nice when objectives bundle together like that

Re: Amra's Starfield
I'm with the UC Vanguard, a different outfit but a logical one for my character, since she's a UC native. And now a UC citizen (you're not born one, you need to earn it through service somehow). Anyway I'm focusing on the main quest again and I made quite a bit of progress, so it's time for an update. To start with, Sarah became my regular companion for the time being.
This guy is not part of the main quest, and Sarah is not allowed in. It's a "I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you" kind of thing.
Amara has no piloting skills whatsoever, but she's still the only one who can steer this thing. Clumsily.
The ship does look cool taking off though.

Re: Amra's Starfield
Yeah, I was hoping it was only on my end because it looked fine in the preview. I'll try and fix it.

Re: Amra's Starfield
every time I get a captcha, which is almost every time I post pictures, it messes things up although in the preview it's all good. This is HIGHLY ANNOYING! I split up the posts and the second one was fine but the first one got messed up again. I split that one up again and it's the same thing. Do I have to keep splitting it up and click on buses and motorcycles the whole time until there's only one bad post left? I hate this forum software!

This planet is dark, it almost makes you depressed.
Sarah turns out to be a sensitive soul. She's not ready for a commitment yet though.
Let's go and zap around the Milky Way! Relativity does not seem to be a problem here, the whole universe runs on the same clock, as usual in science fiction.
It's freezing out there.
Oh look, I found another anomaly in yet another mine shaft. My third already.

Re: Amra's Starfield
Docking with the space station baffled me until I read you just need to point at the blue mark and hit E, the same key that you use to get up off your pilot's seat. There was no hint for this in the screen at all. Great interface.
We're on to bigger things now, that is to say bigger anomalies with gravity-defying stones.
The disturbance seems to originate here.
Now Amara's an anomaly herself!
It looks a bit like the lockpicking puzzles but no, it's a code. Like the dragon shouts in Skyrim.
Oh you want to see it? FOOS! Er... no, it's just a gesture. I'm sure I can have some fun with this. I want more!

It's in three posts now and the captcha finally gave up getting in my way. I had to edit a dozen times or so.

It's strange. I almost never have a problem with the capcha coming up. It only appears very rarely. Might be something with the frequency of my posts - I dunno.

There's a perfectly logical reason there is. Of course humans need a standard date system when they're exploring and settling the galaxy. And what other planet would be better to use as a reference than good ol' Mother Earthh herself - even though Earth is uninhabited in Starfield.
And why would planets have different local times compared to standard time -- simply it's because of their rotational speed. In Starfield there's actually one planet where 1 local hour is 100 hours on Earth -- the planet rotates faster in reality. (Do you know which planet it is. Don't have to look far - it's in our system.)

Re: Amra's Starfield
I didn't mean time as in hours in the day on a planet. I was referring to the effect of relativity (as in Einstein's general theory of relativity) on your age relative to the planet you're travelling from. As in, by the time you get back your future grandchildren will be older than you, for example. But never mind that, it's just a game and travel is instantaneous anyway, right? 10 light years is just a loading screen away.

Ah. Well, the theory would only really apply when you travel very close to light speed for a long time. Like you said, in Starfield space jumps are pretty instantaneous - using the wormhole theory of space travel.
If you didn't already know, Bethesda did play on this very topic in one of their side quests. Somewhere in the outer systems you will come upon this quest. I don't know where because I haven't been there yet, but it's a fixed location.

Re: Amra's Starfield
I'm currently on Sam's personal quest -- we just rescued Lillian and I took over the Dumas during the quest. Still unregistered (costs 85% of sell price)
I'm keeping the ship for now but going back to the Razorleaf as my home ship -- need to talk to Lillian to proceed the mission.
So, I got a total of 5 ships now, but only the Frontier and Razorleaf are registered. The other 3 are a Crimson Fleet Specter I captured, AAn Ecpleptic ship I forgot the class, and now the Dumas as well.
