They continue their journey in their swimwear. It helps somewhat against the heat, but soon they're sweating all over again. The jungle shelters them somewhat from the sun, but there are still long patches of unsheltered ground to cover.

"I'm guessing they ran out of asphalt a while back," he said. "I guess so... I haven't seen a sign for quite a while as well," she said. "Should we head back?" "It's probably not far anymore." "Your call," Max said. "Let's walk a bit further."

They have long since left anything resembling a path and struggle through the jungle vegetation. Their swimwear clings to their bodies and mosquitos swarm their heads.

"I think we made a mistake," Susan said. "I think so too..." Max said. "I don't feel so well." "Shit. It must be the heat getting to her, or she's getting sunstroke. fudge! We should have brought headwear," he thought. 

Susan leans heavily on Max and they make their way further through the bushes. Dirt clings in sweaty streaks to their bodies and Susan's bare feet look battered from walking on the rough terrain.

"Just a little further. I think I hear water nearby," Max said. "I sure as fudge hope it's really water, otherwise I'm hallucinating as well," he thought. "W-w-where are y-you taking me... Chris? They make an odd pair, both walking in their swimsuits, Max's mother only wearing her bikini bottom. The way back is even more uncomfortable because of fatigue and they grow hungry as well. The fact that he doesn't know if they're going the right way also doesn't bolster Max's confidence.

"Are you sure we came this way?" Susan said. "Not really. But I think so," he said.

They walk for what seems like hours until Max thinks he sees the lights of the city again.

"Do you see those lights as well?" he said. "Yes, I think so. I really hope that's the town or at least a house or something. I'm so tired," she said. "Just a little further, Susan." "I'm glad you're wit me," she said.

Encouraged by the sight of what might be the outskirts of town they walk further. Until they see the first houses of Belugio's capital.

"We made it!" Max said.

The last portion of their journey takes them through familiar streets and they're soon near their apartment. By that time Susan is leaning heavily on Max again.

"I'm not feeling too well again," Susan said. "I think you're still suffering from sunstroke," Max said.

At long last they reach the apartment. Max thinks he sees one of his sisters gazing through the window, on the lookout for them both. 

Before he can say anything, Rachel wraps her arms around Max's nexk embracing him tightly.

"What happened to you? You were gone so long!" she said.

"I'm so glad you're here. We were worried sick," Liza said.

"We went on a hike to see the ancient ruins and got lost," Max said. "We walked for hours through the jungle," Susan said.

Max sees Susan wavering and nearly losing her balance.

"I think it's better you went straight to bed, Susan. I'm sure one of the girls can bring you something to eat later," he said. "Of course!" Liza said. "Thank you, Max, for everything. Without you I'd still be wandering around," Susan said. "Luckily we had each other," he said. "Good night everyone, hopefully I'll feel better in the morning," she said.
